Admiral Small Business of the Year Montgomery Chamber

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The votes are in, and local business leaders chose Admiral Movers an agent of Mayflower Transit, as the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year.

Admiral was selected by a committee of business leaders in the Montgomery community as the Small Business of the Year in Division II, with 11-25 employees. Businesses are judged on staying power, growth in jobs and revenue, innovation, overcoming adversity, the background of the CEO and community commitment.

Admiral made a name for itself in the Montgomery community with 18 years of reliable service and dogged determination to succeed in business and serve their customers. “We really just wanted to make a living, provide our employees with a stable, family work environment and serve our community,” said Scott McNelley, president of Admiral. “If we can do good things for others and make a little money in the process, we’re all set.”

McNelley said Admiral hasn’t always been “all set,” and there were some hard years at the beginning. The company was founded in 1989, when McNelley and his partner had only one truck. Six years later, the truck was lost in a fire.”It was a funny thing – for about a year and a half, we were a moving company without a truck,” McNelley said. Despite the obvious setback, McNelley said the loss of the truck was really a lynchpin moment for Admiral.

“We had to watch every dollar, show great care with our customers and make smart business decisions in order to survive, and that proved to be a successful way to run our business,” McNelley said. Since then, Admiral Moving, Inc. has continued to thrive and build a presence in the Montgomery community, particularly after affiliation with Mayflower Transit in April 2006.
